The Sioux Falls Jaycees have hosted the fireworks at the WH Lyons Fairgrounds for 53 years. That event was canceled on June 2nd due to COVID-19 concerns. Upon learning this, a small group of local businesses has spent the last week working together to keep the fireworks show for 2020.
Sunny 93.3 and FOX 7 present the Sioux Falls Fireworks, sponsored by Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort and MarketBeat. They’re working with Lew’s Fireworks, the same company that’s done the Sioux Falls fireworks show for many years. The fireworks will be shot from Elmwood Golf Course and you’re encouraged to watch the fireworks from your vehicle while parked anywhere in northwest Sioux Falls, then listen to the patriotic musical soundtrack on Sunny 93.3fm. This is something that was added several years ago, but this year it’s replacing the “in-person” event completely.
Several “approved parking areas” have already been secured. A growing list can be found at SiouxFallsFireworks.org
This event could not happen without the local businesses that stepped up to support it. Many who feel this event is needed now more than ever. The local sponsors include Sunny 93.3, FOX 7, Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort, MarketBeat, Noteboom RV, Car Swap, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Smithfield Foods, Xcel Energy and Big Paws Canine.
There are many additional businesses and local residents who are also pitching in to make this a success. One way anyone can get involved is through the “Giving Back” program at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort. You can donate $10 to the fireworks fund and they will give you $10 in free play in the casino. (details available at the Resort Club)
